IBIA Annual Dinner attendees raise £5000 for Lawhill Maritime Centre

IBIA’s annual dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in February saw over 1000 attendees, who between them raised a staggering £5000 towards the Lawhill Maritime Centre in South Africa. The Lawhill Maritime Centre gives people from heavily disadvantaged backgrounds a start in the shipping industry.   Maritime courses are studied alongside a full curriculum of school subjects, and many of the students go on to take up a range of positions in shipping.  It is a fantastic centre.

We know some people on the night didn’t have spare cash on them and so we are setting up a donation website – more on that soon. It costs £3000 to support a student at Lawhill for a year and our aim is to provide funding for a minimum of 2 students on an ongoing basis, so we need your help to bring in the extra £1000 (and hopefully enough to fund a third place).  If you can help please get in touch with Anna. Or perhaps your company could sponsor their own place in its entirety. Either way, Brian Ingpen from Lawhill has sent us the following message:

“We are absolutely delighted with the most generous response from the dinner attendees.  Their kindness was overwhelming and we are most grateful to everyone who contributed. Thank you again from everyone here at Lawhill.  It is difficult to put into words how your kindness will impact the lives of many young people.”
