Welcome to IBIA’s Newsletter for March

Welcome to IBIA’s Newsletter for March

peter_hall246Welcome to this month’s newsletter, which comes (almost) from the Asia Pacific Maritime Forum (APMF) in Singapore.  The annual event attracted well over a 1000 delegates, with the IBIA Forum drawing in over 100 attendees keen to discuss upcoming regulatory challenges.

Interestingly, instead of IBIA’s core audience of bunker suppliers, because of the nature of the APMF, most of the audience were ship owners and managers, offering a different and interesting perspective on many of the familiar hot topics.

IBIA has taken an important step forward this month entering into a strategic partnership with the Trident Alliance. Together, the two organisations will be working to ensure a level playing field across the industry.  The main focus will be on raising awareness of the issue, promoting transparency on enforcement and supporting initiatives to foster innovation in enforcement technology.

Both Trident Alliance and IBIA agree that the robust enforcement of the sulphur regulations is essential to benefit the environment, human health and responsible business.

As we approach the end of the first quarter, I would like to thank our outgoing IBIA Chairman Jens Maul Jørgensen, Director of the Bunker Department, Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co, for his strong leadership, as he steps down after two years in this important position.

I would also like to thank Dilip Mody, our much esteemed Treasurer who has stood down after several years, we also thank him for his support and hard work.

Finally, I know that all of the members of IBIA will join with me to welcome our new Board Members; Bob Sanguinetti, CEO and Captain of the Port of Gibraltar, Henrik Zederkof, CEO Dan-Bunkering who both join the Board for the first time, and Mustafa Muhtaroglu, CEO Energy Petrol who has been re-elected for a second term.

And last but not least, we welcome our new IBIA Chairman Robin Meech (you can read an interview with Robin later in this newsletter), who takes up his new role on 1 April, 2016.

Wishing you all a successful and productive month ahead,

Peter Hall
