IBIA team members recognised for empowering women in shipping
IBIA has been honoured with mentions in two publications listing women who have embodied the IMO’s 2019 World Maritime Day theme of empowering women in the maritime community.
In December, IBIA’s Director Unni Einemo was named by Lloyd’s List as one of ‘Ten women influencing shipping in 2019’, ahead of the publication’s annual Top 100 most influential people in shipping series.
Lloyd’s List said it had “felt it was important that the Top 100 project as a whole reflected more of the influential women steering companies, bodies and association through these turbulent times.” It said IBIA’s director had “found herself this year as the de facto spokesperson for all things related to the 2020 sulphur cap”.
Then in February, we were happy to see three familiar names from IBIA on the ‘Top 100 women in Shipping for 2019’ compiled by www.allaboutshipping.co.uk in honour of IMO’s 2019 theme. The list featured Unni Einemo alongside IBIA’s Global Head of Marketing and Events Sofia Konstantopoulou, and IBIA’s Regional manager for Africa, Tahra Sergeant.

IBIA is proud to be represented among such an amazing selection of women in the maritime sector, showing that our Association has had a significant and positive impact in the past year. Moreover, IBIA hopes this serves as an inspiration for women who aspire to have a career in the maritime sector as we have shown that women can have a voice and success in this industry.
