Ingpen: “Put huge revenues to local use”

A South African shipping commentator has used a government initiative to call for support for local bunkering.

“Those ships that prefer to bunker elsewhere should be enticed to South African ports so that the huge revenues from this industry can be brought to local service providers,” wrote Brian Ingpen in his Cape Times column.

Ingpen’s remarks were prompted by comments made by an unnamed government official who talked up the potential of South Africa’s blue economy.

Ingpen uses his column to bang the drum for South Africa’s shipping and bunkering industries.

The two major bunkering ports in South Africa are Cape Town and Durban.
