Available to view: Symposium on IMO 2020 and Alternative Fuels

IBIA was among the speakers/panellists when the IMO hosted Symposium on IMO 2020 and Alternative Fuels in October. The Symposium, which was held at the London headquarters of the International Maritime Organization, brought together stakeholders including Member States and representatives from NGOs active at the IMO within shipping, refining, bunker supply and environmental protection.

This one and half day symposium aimed to raise awareness and to take stock of the preparations for the IMO 2020 rule, and to discuss the role of alternative fuels in the decarbonization of international shipping.

IBIA’s Director and Representative for IBA at the IMO, Unni Einemo, spoke in a session on ‘Availability and quality of compliant fuel oil’ alongside Capt. Segar, Assistant Chief Executive, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Monique Vermeire, Convenor ISO/TC 28/SC 4/WG and, Eddy van Bouwel, Chair, marine fuels committee, IPIECA.

The event was open to the public and also livestreamed, but if you missed it or would like to see the presentations or listen again, the IMO has made audio files and all the presentations from the symposium available online (just click on this link).

IBIA’s key messages to the symposium are summarised here.
