IBIA is proud to support the Metavasea project.

The METAVASEA(*) project is a five-year initiative (2023–2028), supported by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and coordinated by HELMEPA, that aims to enable a people-centered transition toward maritime decarbonization in the Eastern Mediterranean. Its goals include training and upskilling 1,500 seafarers, maritime professionals, and port workers in alternative fuels, sustainability, digital competencies, and soft skills.

The project also works to increase the engagement of shipping companies and ports in decarbonization efforts, assess community and industry readiness for new fuels, and identify region-specific needs and opportunities.

(*) Metavasi is the Greek word for transition

A key component of the initiative is gathering public and professional perspectives through the METAVASEA survey questionnaire, which captures the views of residents of islands and coastal areas as well as stakeholders active in the maritime sector. This feedback provides valuable insights into how communities and professionals understand challenges related to global warming, alternative fuels, and the environmental impact of shipping.

Your participation is essential, as opinions help shape decisions affecting our future. With the involvement of the World Maritime University—established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—the survey findings will contribute to IMO deliberations that influence future global maritime policies governing 90% of world trade.

The questionnaire is anonymous and will take only 10 minutes of your time to complete.
