IBIA strongly represented at upcoming Istanbul Bunker Conference
Five of the speakers at the 8th Istanbul Bunker Conference, running from 10-12 May, work for IBIA either as board members or employees. IBIA chairman, Robin Meech, will be chairing the conference.
Meech will also do a presentation at the conference on the subject of the global transition to lower sulphur fuels as we look ahead to the 0.50% sulphur limit in 2020.
IBIA’s IMO Representative Unni Einemo, will also be looking at the 2020 issue and other aspects of what’s happening at the IMO that has an impact on the bunker market.
We have many challenges ahead of us, including coping with “new” fuels, which is the subject of IBIA board member Nigel Draffin’s presentation. He will also talk about the role of training and education.
IBIA’s Chief executive, Justin Murphy, will be doing a presentation on a different subject: Ethics and the role of an industry association, sharing his thoughts on how IBIA will develop guidance in this area.
Maritime arbitrator Trevor Harrison, who is the company secretary for IBIA, will bring his legal expertise to the question of whether there will ever be industry standard terms and conditions in bunkering.
IBIA is looking forward to participating in the conference which will cover a wide range of issues and promises some very special social events for networking.
