IBIA members meeting on preparing for IMO MEPC/ES.24

IBIA Members Meeting – 4 September 2025

An important members-only discussion ahead of the IMO MEPC/ES.2 session

IBIA invites all members to join a dedicated Members Meeting on Thursday, 4 September 2025, ahead of the special IMO MEPC/ES.2 session scheduled for October.

This session will be led by Dr Edmund Hughes, IBIA’s Representative to the IMO, together with members of the IBIA Board and Secretariat. It will provide an opportunity for members—particularly those involved in fuel production, supply, and operations—to share views on the proposed IMO Net-Zero Framework (IMO NZF) and related regulatory developments.

Why this meeting matters

MEPC/ES.2 is a pivotal session convened to consider and adopt the new Chapter 5 of MARPOL Annex VI, introducing the IMO NZF. These measures represent a significant change for the marine fuels industry, and IBIA is committed to ensuring its members’ views are accurately represented in the global regulatory dialogue.

The discussion will explore:

-Timelines and compliance pathways for the IMO NZF

-Anticipated impacts across the marine fuel supply chain

-Certification schemes for sustainable fuels

-Contractual and operational implications for physical suppliers

Your input is especially valuable if you have experience with EU-ETS, FuelEU Maritime, or other regional compliance schemes.
